Australia once again trying to pivot towards India

Relations with China appear to be going from bad to worse, with the country's hawkish Global Times newspaper now warning that Australia would pay an "unbearable price" if it sided with the United States in an economic "Cold War".

The increasingly bellicose tone out of Beijing has accelerated the push by Canberra to strengthen ties with other nations in the region, with Australia once again trying to pivot towards India.

Last week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a virtual summit with his counterpart Narendra Modi, with expanding trade and security relations top of the agenda.
