In a pivotal move towards trade diversification, Australia and India have finalised the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI ECTA), eliminating tariffs on nearly 91 percent of Australian exports to India over the next decade. This deal marks India's first with a developed economy in the region and was accelerated amid Australia’s strained ties with China. While not yet on par with the comprehensive China-Australia FTA, AI ECTA sets the foundation for a full-scale trade pact. Key sectors to benefit include agriculture, resources, wine, and services, reinforcing strategic ties and opening long-term market access in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
