Workforce Mobility: Building a Future-Ready Australia–India Talent Corridor
28 June 2024
Newland Global Group x Consulate General of India, Sydney
Sectoral Roundtable Series
As part of our Australia–India CECA-focused dialogue series, Newland Global Group together with the Consulate General of India in Sydney, hosted a high-level roundtable on workforce mobility and skills alignment between the two nations.
With global labour shortages intensifying, the session convened leaders from business, government, education, and training to address one of the most pressing economic challenges of the decade: enabling cross-border talent flow to meet future workforce demand.
Key Themes
• Aligning skills frameworks for mutual recognition and mobility
• Addressing shortages across priority sectors: healthcare, tech, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing
• Structuring long-term pathways for training, certification, and skilled migration
• Reducing friction in regulatory and policy alignment
Strategic Context
Global skill shortages could leave 85 million jobs unfilled by 2030, equivalent to US$8.5 trillion in lost output. While industrialised nations face a 4% decline in labour force participation by 2045, India’s workforce is projected to expand by 32%, accounting for 25% of the global workforce and 15% of global GDP by 2047.

India already supplies high-quality talent across sectors globally. Mobility is expected to rise 28–30% in the next five years. Bilateral alignment on skills, accreditation, and workforce strategy represents a unique opportunity for Australia to access scalable talent pipelines while supporting India’s global skills agenda.
